A Point man has been appointed as the new chief executive of Stornoway Port Authority.
The authority said that Alexander D Macleod, who is 46, will bring a wide range of managerial and practical skills to the port when he takes the reins on July 27.
He is currently the commercial manager of a local civil engineering company where he is said to have gained considerable experience around Stornoway Harbour and has taken part in a number of major infrastructure projects at the port over many years including the recent upgrading of Number 3 pier.
The SPA says Mr Macleod was also involved in a major harbour infrastructure project connected with the America’s Cup viaduct basin in Auckland, New Zealand.
Mr Macleod, his wife and young family live in Knock. His uncle, grandfather and great grandfather were all fishermen working out of Stornoway.
SPA chairman Captain Robert Frater said: “It is clear Mr. Macleod is passionate about Stornoway Harbour and he is committed to addressing the many challenges in managing and improving the port for the benefit of all of its stakeholders.
“The board is delighted that Mr Macleod has accepted the position of chief executive and is confident that he is very well equipped and placed to meet the varying demands of the post.”
Good luck to Alex who will be under a lot of scrutiny for various reasons . I am told he is a sound fellow but if he chooses not to implement the guide for trust ports as the previous lot failed to he will not last. the stakeholders have had enough of being ignored and mistreated by the spa.
Will the Board now please resign on mass so we can have a clean honest new beginning to the 150th year.
They are looking for new members….. Just saying put yer money where…:.,;
Excellent appointment, time to let the Port Authority get on with repairing the damage of the recent past.
It seems that we now have someone in charge of the SPA that knows the sharp end of a boat from the blunt end. Things should look up from now on, but only if the rest of the board jump before they are pushed.
