In the case of organisations, he will quickly draw up a detailed PR action plan for communications to be followed which will make the job easier for the executives who need to concentrate on fixing the problem.
His service to individuals who struggle when they find themselves in the news also involves a good deal of planning as well as co-ordinating media liaison. Much of that work will be done behind the scenes but, where appropriate, he can also act as a spokesman. Individuals are not sent a bill for such work.
