Now the latest news from the blog that a local fuel merchant allegedly described this week as “… something that I would like to see shut down to preserve my sanity”. It seems my recent coverage of Gordon Diesel’s magnificent efforts has caused outbreaks of anger and loathing among some very apparently-respectable people. Heck, we must be doing something right. It’s working, keep reading …
BREAKING NEWS … Engebret has now taken another 1p a litre off. But … wait … Manor Filling Station has now taken off another 3p. They are going in the right direction – except, well, one that is sticking firmly with the highest-possible prices.
A highly-experienced Scottish oil industry executive told me today that any island retailer can simply walk away from the “ridiculous” Scottish Fuels contracts – and they can sue if any rebate is withheld. He said SF would be unable to stop the fine detail of the stranglehold they have from becoming public in court – the very last thing they would want. It is well-known in the industry. Their bid to keep the status quo would be laughed out of court, he said.
The OFT is now aware of this. Everyone involved could be called as witnesses – including nasty tough guy Tony Stewart, who cracks the SF whip and came up with the stranglehold in the first place, and the heart-of-stone island councillor who always did his bidding. We all want to see this happen. More soon.

How much more evidence does the OFT need in this disgraceful rip off of the Islanders,The holes are getting deeper and certain people who are digging them will find that they are so deep they will not be able to climb out of them,Anyone who is seen to be upholding these money grabbing thieves deserves everything thrown at them including criminal proceedings if appropriate,
I’d still like to know where the council, the police, the NHS and all other government or local government organizations are buying their fuel. After all it is our money they are using, and they have an obligation to use our money responsibly.
A salient point Guga. I wonder how much these organisations are paying for their fuel- petrol, diesel and heating oil, and are they also being ripped off?
The Genie is well and truly out of the bottle, and all praise to Mr.X., Mr. Macmillan and FFS, in less than a year you have achieved something our useless and inneffective politicians,MP, MSP, and Councillors failed to do over the last few years. Shame on them .
“A highly-experienced Scottish oil industry executive told me today ……” You been in the Crit with George Gog again?
It appears Mr X has been nobbled. One of his blogs appears to have gone AWOL. I did not splutter my tea across the room in vain when I read it after all.
Are you going to tell us whose Legal Team brought about this reversal.?
Odd that the man/woman with the cow [Bo-Dung] remains silent regarding Gordon Diesels Services Ltd input.
My apologies John, I should of course have included Gordon Diesel Services Ltd. in my list along with Mr X, Mr. Macmillan and FFS. They have had a sustained campaign for the last few months and it is truly remarkable that GDS have broken ranks and made such a difference to fuel prices in the last few weeks. It is now up to the OFT to ensure that the power of the Oil Barons is broken once and for all.
An excellent point has been made about the responsibility public bodies have to source the most cost effective supplies, including fuel. A simple FOI request to each should yield the answers.
Meanwhile, another fuel related area was highlighted on the front of this week’s gazette with the idea of driving down the cost of heating oil by forming “fuel clubs”. I wonder if this is something that community councils could take the lead on across the Western Isles.
No, dear readers, I don’t know what John Maclennan is talking about either. Has he been supping more than tea? Have you tried scrolling down, John? Take it easy, now.
Not since a while Mr X, and as an old boss said to me “John we were both wrong”. I take 80% of it back – I did find the blog I thought went AWOL- but make allowances for a pensioner whose grey matter has been all but used up. You did remove the picture of the green tank with its “commentary” and it is this what confused me.
Ah right, John. That top picture is just the header which changes depending on what I am ranting about at the time. That sign-written tank was just a bit of manipulated fun – although a firm in Cheshire perhaps didn’t think so.
Hope you’re keeping well.
