Post Office move to Engy’s is scrapped

A change of site for Stornoway’s second post office which would have seen it open for longer including Sunday afternoons has been scrapped.

The Post Office had launched a public consultation when it announced plans to move the Bayhead post office from its current site by the Bayhead Roundabout to the Engebret Ltd filling station on Sandwick Road.

A Post Office statement has now confirmed the move is now off after a review taking into account a wide range of factors including the responses as part of the consultation process and the views expressed at the public meeting.

It concluded: “After careful consideration we have decided not to proceed with the proposed move of Bayhead Post Office and the branch will continue to operate from its existing location.”

  1. Good news for the largest populated area of Stornoway,If it’s not broken ,why fix it?

  2. Won’t affect me ..but not so good news for Sandwick , Seaforth Road & Seaview Terrace perhaps + All the Staff in the White house …which is a lot :-)
The Other end of town thought they were going to get the Service – Just saying

  3. It’s good news for a lot of people that it will stay at the Trading Post, especially those without their own transport, and the elderly at that end of town.

  4. It would have been better moving to Engy’s. However the MIB wouldallow such a thing. T^he Post Office providing a service on a Sunday Heaven (well the FC, FCC) forbid!

  5. I dont know why we keep getting this tosh about Sunday opening. Post offices, like banks, do not open on Sunday
