Dougie Thompson, 58, who is originally from Wishaw near Glasgow, was playing golf in Mexico when he was attacked by a crocodile which closed its jaws on his thigh causing horrific injuries.
It was only when friends rushed to his rescue and beat off the 12ft reptile that Dougie was finally hauled clear.
Now recovering in a hotel in Cancun, Dougie, who lives in Toronto, has been telling Iain Maciver how it happened.
We live with crocs up here in Far North Queensland. Signs are put up in all areas where they have been seen or are likely to be. I am assured they only attack in the water or on the bank of the water where they live. Otherwise they leave you alone. The message we live with is “keep away from their habitat and they will leave you alone”. Currently there is a program of relocating large crocs in built up areas to crocodile farms but those in national parks are being left there.
Minimum – there should have been warning signs.
just back from malaysia…..golfed in borneo…..lots of signs around warning not to retrieve lost balls ( golf balls)……..but this one sounds as though it attacked in the realative open.
