It is utterly bizarre that any politician would call for a referendum on Harris about Sunday ferries. Why some cailleach in Leverburgh should have any say in whether I, as a resident of Stornoway, can go and visit my friends on Skye on any day I choose on a ferry funded by my taxes, while I have no say, is just ludicrous.
It has nothing to do with her – and it’s got nothing to do with any rabble-rousing political hopefuls either. The ferry from Harris is not just for Hearachs. It’s for everybody. If there is a demand for any public service, it should be provided, unless it somehow adversely affects the life of someone else. This is a ferry that already regularly runs empty without any distress to anyone. I demand that it takes paying passengers to ensure the squandering of my taxes stops now.
I suspect all the political candidates know that it would be unfair not to run this service but some choose to play to that gallery of notoriously-conservative opponents of change. These opponents’ dogged resistance is shredding our fragile economy and ensuring our children will have to flee these far-flung jewels of hypocrisy.
What the bible says:
Romans 14:5 - One man esteemeth one day above another; another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Ah yes. Good quote. So why shouldn’t a wee cailleach – ok, you didn’t say wee which is aswell as some of us are actually big, buxom, craggy caillich like the rocks that surround us – (I rather like the idea they formed us!) – have her views discounted? I am tired of the suarachas in which our language, culture and faith are so often put. High time for a monstrous regiment of cailleachan na Hearadh, to stand up for the traditional language and culture of Eilean na Hearadh. Aspiring politicians take note as many of us feel disenfranchised!
Eek.
Hi,
It is so nice to know about ferries referendum. It is very good to get public interest, so which is really beneficial.
