I will tell BT their broadband speed is rubbish here

Judging by the comments I have had here and elsewhere, there is still a serious problem with broadband speed in areas around Stornoway – and in some cases in the town. BT is responsible, no matter who your provider is.

It is useful to complain to your provider – even if they say the system shows no problems – as they must log them and also pass them onto BT.  I will pass on your complaints again but BT managers will need your street or area and the number of the phone line through which you get your service to properly investigate.

If you can also give your upload and download speed and pings (just read off Speedtest), that will also help.  To do the official BT speed test, close all open programs, switch off your router for a minute, turn back on and run the test at:  http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/

BT says broadband is fixed

BT says all its core broadband links to the Western Isles are now running error-free. Oops, forgot to post that a couple of days ago.

BT finds cause of poor Lewis broadband speed

No, it wasn’t your imagination. Broadband has been slower for the past week or 10 days in the Lewis area for those who get the signal through their phone lines.

BT said this afternoon that it had discovered there is congestion on one of its broadband links which is causing slow throughput at peak periods. Engineers are working to re-route traffic and a final update will be given soon.

No faults found yet with local broadband

Further to the complaints of slow broadband speeds which I took up with BT, the company tells me the local Openreach manager is not aware of any problems with broadband and that there’s been no increase in the level of reported broadband faults.

The BT spokesman says they will need the phone numbers of the affected lines to look into it more. If anyone wants to send me their numbers, their location, current speed, duration of the problem, etc, I will forward that to my BT contact.

Broadband speed problems?

I’m hearing of slow speeds in some areas. BT Support says they don’t know of any problem. If you’re affected, please drop me a note with name of provider, your location and how long you’ve had the issue so I can take it up with them.

Isles’ broadband fixed

BT has just said: “Broadband service to the Western Isles was lost between 9.30am and 10.30am this morning (Wed) after a transmission fault at Stornoway’s microwave radio station.
“Service was restored after engineers carried out a hardware change. A related fault yesterday resulted in broadband going down for just over an hour shortly before lunchtime. BT would like to apologise for the inconvenience and frustration this caused.”
